Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about EmeraldCare’s approach to behavioral health, treatment options, and what to expect on your journey.

What are all of the services that EmeraldCare offers?

EmeraldCare provides mental health evaluations, psychiatric medication management, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol dependence. You can receive care either in person at our Manchester office or from home through telehealth. While we don’t provide therapy or counseling directly, we’re happy to refer you to trusted, licensed providers in your community.

Do I need a referral to become a patient at EmeraldCare?

No referral is required. You can contact us directly to schedule a mental health evaluation or learn more about your treatment options. We’ll guide you through the next steps.

What is the difference between mental health treatment and medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?

Mental health treatment focuses on managing conditions like anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. It often includes psychiatric medications and therapy. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is designed to treat substance use disorders using FDA-approved medications, sometimes combined with mental health support or counseling. Many patients benefit from both types of care, depending on their needs.

Can I receive therapy or counseling through EmeraldCare?

EmeraldCare doesn’t offer therapy, but we regularly refer patients to trusted therapists in the community. If you’re already working with a therapist, we’re happy to coordinate so your care stays aligned.

How do I know if I need mental health medication?

That’s something we’ll explore together during your initial evaluation. Your provider will take time to understand your symptoms, concerns, and goals before making any recommendations. If medication seems helpful, we’ll explain your options and support you every step of the way.

What medications do you offer for opioid or alcohol dependence?

We prescribe FDA-approved medications like Suboxone, Subutex, Zubsolv, Sublocade, Brixadi, and Vivitrol. Your provider will work with you to choose the option that best fits your needs and recovery goals.

Do I have to attend group sessions to receive MAT?

No. Group therapy is not required at EmeraldCare. Your care plan is personalized, and we focus on what works best for you—whether that’s individual medication management, referrals to outside therapy, or both.

Can you prescribe antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications?

Yes. Our providers are licensed to prescribe psychiatric medications, including antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and medications for anxiety, ADHD, and related conditions. We’ll help find the right fit based on your symptoms and goals.

How often do I need to follow up for medication adjustments?

It depends on your treatment plan. Early on, we may check in more often to make sure your medication is working well. Once things stabilize, appointments may become less frequent. We’ll always let you know when to expect your next check-in, and we’re here anytime in between.

Do you offer telehealth appointments for all services?

Yes. Most of our services including evaluations, psychiatric medication management, and MAT, can be provided securely through telehealth, as long as it’s clinically appropriate.

Can I switch between in-person and telehealth?

Yes. If your schedule, location, or comfort level changes, just let us know—we’ll work with you to make care as convenient as possible. For injectable medications, however, in-person care may be required.

I scheduled an appointment. What should I expect at my first visit or evaluation?

You’ll meet with one of our licensed providers to discuss your concerns, health history, and goals. From there, we’ll create a personalized plan that may include psychiatric medication, MAT, referrals, or follow-up care. There’s no pressure—we’re here to support you.

What insurance plans does EmeraldCare accept?

We accept NH Medicaid Plans and commercial insurance. If you’re not sure what your plan covers, just reach out. Our team will help verify your benefits and walk you through what to expect.

What if I don’t have insurance?

You can still receive care. We offer flexible self-pay options and believe that no one should be turned away because of cost. Let us know your situation—we’ll work with you to find a payment plan that fits.

Do you offer sliding scale or payment plans?

For patients without insurance or with limited coverage, we offer affordable payment plans and flexible options to make care accessible.

Can I continue seeing my primary care physician while in treatment?

We encourage it. Our team is happy to coordinate with your primary care provider to make sure your mental health or addiction treatment aligns with your overall care.

What support is available for families of patients?

While we do not offer family counseling directly, we can provide referrals to local and trusted providers. We also encourage open communication and can help family members understand what to expect throughout a loved one’s treatment.

Can I receive psychiatric care if I’m pregnant?

Yes. We provide psychiatric treatment plans that are safe during pregnancy, including certain medications when appropriate. Your provider will work closely with you (and your OB if needed) to support your mental health while keeping you and your baby safe.

How long does treatment last?

Treatment length varies depending on your needs. Some people benefit from short-term support, while others stay in care longer for ongoing stability. We’ll talk about your goals early on and check in regularly to adjust your plan as needed.
