      FAQS

Questions About Brixadi, Sublocade, & Vivitrol?

Get helpful information about how each medication supports recovery from opioid or alcohol use.

How do Brixadi, Sublocade, and Vivitrol compare?

All three medications are long-acting options used in medication-assisted treatment (MAT), but they work in different ways.

      • Brixadi and Sublocade both contain buprenorphine, which helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms for opioid dependence.
      • Vivitrol contains naltrexone, a different type of medication that helps prevent relapse for both alcohol and opioid use disorders.

The right choice depends on your goals, history, and how your body responds to treatment. Your provider will walk you through the options and help you decide which medication fits best.

What does titration mean in mental health or addiction treatment?

Titration is the process of slowly adjusting your medication dose to find the amount that works best for you. Everyone’s body reacts differently, so your provider may start you on a lower dose and gradually increase it over time.

This helps reduce side effects and ensures your medication is both safe and effective—whether you’re taking medication for anxiety, depression, or part of a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) plan for opioid or alcohol use. Your provider will check in regularly during this process and make changes as needed to support your progress.

Can I switch from Suboxone to Brixadi or Sublocade?

Yes. Many people choose to transition from daily Suboxone tablets or films to long-acting injectable medications like Brixadi or Sublocade. These options offer consistent dosing and can be more convenient for those who prefer not to take medication every day. Your provider will help you decide if this switch is right for your treatment goals.

Can I receive these medications online?

You can meet with a provider online for your initial evaluation and follow-ups, but injectable medications need to be given in person. We’ll schedule you for an appointement and make sure you feel confident about what to expect.

What are the potential side effects of Brixadi?

Some people experience mild side effects such as injection site redness, itching, or swelling, as well as nausea, headache, constipation, or drowsiness. These symptoms often improve as your body adjusts. If side effects persist or worsen, reach out to your provider.

What side effects can occur with Sublocade?

Sublocade may cause injection site pain, nausea, constipation, fatigue, or headache. Though rare, more serious side effects like allergic reactions or difficulty breathing can occur. Always let your provider know if something feels off.

What are the possible side effects of Vivitrol?

Common side effects include injection site discomfort, nausea, sleep changes, or headaches. Some people may notice changes in mood or increased anxiety. If you’re feeling different emotionally or physically after receiving Vivitrol, check in with your provider so we can support you.

Do you partner with other healthcare facilities or therapists?

Yes. We regularly coordinate with local therapists, treatment centers, and healthcare providers to support our patients. If you already have a therapist or care team, we’re happy to collaborate so your medication management stays aligned with the rest of your care.
